You came here for restoration work. I don’t do that anymore.

Over the last couple of decades I have fit or restored hundreds of traditional timber front doors — Victorian, Edwardian, Georgian, 1930s — those days are gone. I’m not taking on restoration or fitting work anymore.

What I can still offer is different but genuinely useful: practical draught-proofing kits for old timber doors, designed from hands-on experience fitting hundreds of them — and, if the door itself needs replacing, a supply-only service for traditionally made hardwood front doors.

Your Door Has Draughts

If the door itself is sound but cold air is getting in round the edges — that’s usually a gap problem, not a door problem. A draught-proofing kit is the practical, cost-effective first step.

Your Door Needs Replacing

If the door is beyond saving — or your period home has ended up with entirely the wrong door — I can supply a traditionally made hardwood replacement. Supply only; you arrange fitting locally.

If the glass is broken, missing or just wrong for the door, I make bespoke leaded glass panels to order — designed to suit the period and style of your specific door.

Old doors are usually better than the thing people replace them with

The problem with most old timber front doors is not the door. It is the gaps around it. Cold air round the frame. Rattling in the wind. Daylight at the threshold. These are draught problems — and a good draught-proofing kit fixes them without touching the door itself.

My kits are designed specifically for old timber doors — the kind that don’t behave like new ones, with gaps that vary between the top, the lock side and the threshold. Based on years of hands-on experience with hundreds of period doors.

Designed for period and traditional front doors — Victorian, Edwardian, Georgian, 1930s. Not for uPVC or composite.

Seals the two sides and top of the frame. The hardwood threshold handles the gap underneath.

TRADITIONAL FRONT DOORS — SUPPLY ONLY

If the door needs replacing, I can supply a handmade replacement

Not every old door can be saved. If yours is beyond reasonable repair — or your period home has ended up with a uPVC or composite door that was never right for it — I can supply a traditionally made hardwood front door.

Supply only. You arrange your own fitting — any competent joiner can hang a door. If you want to talk it through before deciding, the easiest thing is a quick phone call.

Built on hundreds of real front doors

I don’t fit front doors anymore. But I spent the best part of 20 years doing it — from Victorian terraces in Manchester and Edwardian semis in Liverpool, to Georgian manor houses in Derbyshire. I’ve seen most of what an old timber door can throw at you.

The draught-proofing kits I sell come directly from that experience. The doors I supply are made by a joiner I’ve trusted for years. If I wouldn’t put either on my own house, I wouldn’t sell them to you.
